‘ePedigree’ fights drug counterfeiting
Technology is giving the healthcare industry a potent weapon against counterfeit drugs. With the latest offering from IBM, pharmaceutical companies can create an electronic certificate of authenticity (known as an electronic pedigree or ePedigree) for every drug that passes through the supply chain. And, all participants in the supply chain -- manufacturers, distributors, pharmacies and hospitals – can access historical data on individual bottles or packages of medicine.

Mainframes color IBM data centers green
IBM will consolidate some 3,900 computer servers onto about 30 System z mainframes running the Linux operating system. The company expects the new setup to use about 80 percent less energy than the current arrangement.

IFC and IBM work to even odds for small business
IBM and IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank, are offering a new version of a free toolkit aimed at small business owners in emerging markets as well as women, Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Asian entrepreneurs in the U.S. The kit provides these firms with sophisticated business information, tools, and training services usually reserved for Fortune 1000 companies.

‘Global Citizen’s Portfolio’ pays off for IBMers
IBM has created the Global Citizen's Portfolio, a suite of investments and programs to help IBM employees bolster their skills and expertise. The portfolio includes an education account, similar to a 401K retirement fund, with matching contributions from the company. IBM will spend up to $60 million in the next three years on the project.
